CLR

I have never tried it... but I have a bottle and some rocks that need a trial run.

Perhaps a test will be in order if no members have the answer.

CLR is used for cleaning everything from coffee pots to bathtubs and toilets.

That's why I thought perhaps it could be used on rocks. Maybe not fossils but rocks.

"Calcium Lime Rust, more commonly known as CLR, is a household cleaning product used for dissolving stains, such as calcium, lime, and iron oxide deposits. Its ingredients include water, lactic acid, gluconic acid, lauramine oxide, Propylene Glycol, n-Butyl Ether, and solvents that dissolve cobalt gel coats and paint."

Aha, We have a different name for that here. :)

It's worth a shot for sure. Also try Oxalic acid for rust.

Sure, just run another cycle or two of clear water through the machine after you're done with the CLR. Works great!

MAybe one day they will make a carafe / pot that actually has a functional "lip" that pours that first full pot without that spillage.

You would think that in the 1000 years of coffee making they would have ironed that one out.

I worked in property management years ago and for our furnished units the housekeepers used CLR.

I could just see it now...
I use CLR to clean my coffee maker...

Next morn I take a sip of my coffee only to notice the coffee in my cup is clear...
And taste like mug glaze.
