I found this in our creek a few days ago (Southwest Missouri).

I'm pretty new to all of this, so I sent pictures to some friends and posted them on imgur. Opinions seem to be split on whether this is a Dalton, a Clovis, or some other type of point.

I'd love to learn more about it.

Welcome to TreasureNet Kyle, Very nice Dalton. I use to live in Columbia Mo, I hunted the creeks and streams in Central Missouri every week, a lot of great artifacts found there.

I agree on Dalton. The inclusions in that point are incredible! It took a very talented knapper to work around all that and still make such a beautiful point.

Awesome looking point. Could you post a view of the side showing the edge & thickness?

Dalton preforms (Olive Branch and a couple of other sites) are very similar to Clovis preforms and early stage bifaces, and first stage points look similar. Clovis having a pronounced flute, most Dalton fluting was early stage work to thin the biface and was later removed. Daltons often show more narrow pressure flaking across the faces of the biface.

I agree it looks like a relatively first stage Dalton. Depending on how the resharpening went, it could have ended up looking more Dalton like or maybe a bit more Holland like, if the maker went fancy in the flaking it could have looked like an Allen point from west of you. The base template on those are pretty similar.

Well, change my drawers, that's a nice point! I too, agree with it being a Dalton. Beautiful.

Judge S.P. Dalton would be pleased. Dalton's are named after the judge, who found many on a site in MO. Gary
