Okay Everyone, I have one I am not sure of. It looks like a giant hair clip but obviously is not. It was found on an 1880's logging skid road turned into a drive to an early 1900's home site turned into a path into a pasture from the 1930's or so to present day. I have found ox shoes, shotgun brass, wagon parts, etc. on this road. Is this clip possibly made to hold leather straps together on a wagon or maybe something to do with moving logs or ??? I am at a bit of a loss on this one. In the one pic I have a line pointing to a hinge where this clip used to open and close. Thank you in advance for your help and leads. The battery in the pics used to show size is a D size battery.

I think I'd look into hame clips for horse harness before I got too hasty on putting a green check on this one .

I agree. Once this thing was clipped shut there'd not be enough space for chain link at either end.

Since there are some differing opinions I am taking off the green check :'(

If anyone has any pics of the items suggested I would greatly appreciate it. Of course I will keep looking myself.

Thanks,
Doug

"I guess I'm just imagining the chain on both ends of the one I HAVE and the one I found.."

No Rando, I don't think you're imagining it, now that I've looked more closely at this. I'd wrongl;y assumed the end clipoped under the bend to hold it shut. Obviously (to most but me ;D) it didn't clip under, but was held in place on the outside by tension. Sorry to have second guessed your excellent i.d.. Nice i.d. :icon_thumleft:

Rando ,
I have versions of both that are still in usable condition and could go either way on the id . Have used both as well . Hame fastener stays in place under it's own tension and the chain fasteners I have used rely on a retainer to keep them secured because you can't keep tire chains fully tensioned .
