I've seen the coin here before. You need Don to chime in! Mackeydon!

Try this.....

THE SPANISH MILLED DOLLAR
1733-MF, KLIPPE

1449502_Full_Obv.jpg 1449502_Full_Rev.jpg

Origin/Country: MEXICO - TO 1823 (1733-34)
Design Description: Klippe Shield and Cross
Item Description: 0.9160 Silver, 8R 1733MO MF KLIPPE KM-48

They called the Klippe, or machine pressed, and trimmed to proper weight. This coin appears to have been cut / clipped to fit in the bezel. I did not find one in gold, yet....

That's it shame its been cut but its going in my keeper pile for sure

The thing that most puzzles me about this is the extreme high relief on the cross side of the piece, I wonder if it could be a cast copy
of and original - or if the minting methods of the day could account for vast differences in the relief between the design elements and
the planchet surface ?

That is a really sweet find. If the coin turns out to be real... WHOA....

Congrats on a really special find.

I, like argentium , believe you have a cast replica here.

The mint mark is poorly formed, and the roughness of the "blank" is very apparent there, around the mint mark. On the other side, it's also quite rough around the castle nearest the loop.

IMO, the reverse image with a 'bar andball-tipped cross' design is consistent (and unique) with the clippedplanchet silver 4R and 8R coins of Felipe V, during the years 1733and 1734. Two problems I see: (1) the denomination (to the right ofshield) appears more like a '1' than either an '8' or a '4'. But ifit can be said to be an '8', the other problem kills the value; thetotal clipping of the legend as shown in Deepseeker's image (post 5).Perhaps it is a replica based on the coin Deepseeker presented.
Don........

I worried about the 8 as well, but if you look closely at what appeared to be a 1, beneath that is kinda the beginning of two curves, possibly being an 8. It was clipped so closely they may have cut off the 8 there. I searched seriously about that and found no 1 escuedos of the same design. But to you my friend, I excuse myself. You weren't here!
