These were found at the low tide zone on a site that saw extensive military action in the early 1700s up until the mid 1800s. Marbles are usually found at home sites and these were as far away from a home site as possible. They are clay (I think), one has a dimple and they are not perfectly formed (round). Besides clay marbles what else could these be? They were also found within inches of each other.

I thought of that too and would not be surprised...they were found in a bed of mussels...dirty pearls?
