I'm thinking the clay marble is colonial... still neat. Also a nice shell celt "little Guy" and some much bigger brokes.

Shell Celt, yes I can see it being used that way. Looks just like a stone Celt to me. Very nice

Nice! Did you see that early clay marble holder in Todays finds section? Nice shell celt. Great bit on it. Really wild seeing it in shell. I never would have known.

No I didn't see that. Check out that second to last photo. That is a broken shell celt photographed from the side.. that's how thick it is.

Dang that is thick. What kinda shell is that? Not center of a conch is it?

Its queen conch. They were real big back then. Not the center but the body. There is another type that uses the lip.

Do you think there was a chance those clay marbles were used as musket balls when lead got scarce? Just thinking. Nice celt!

Hey thanks.. that crossed my mind also... but I don't think they have enough mass for their size. Seems if they didn't blow apart leaving the barrel they would track like a ping pong ball at that speed. I don't think they could be accurate enough to put your life on the line with. JMO. I'm sure a few kids shot them out of dads gun.

Some where I have an article that states that American Natives had round -marble-like projectiles that were fired from a slingshot type to stun small prey.
I have one or two-that are not marbles.

Sorry for the late reply... Pretty sure these were marbles. Found another one recently.. This one is painted and glazed.
