Its funny you asked I did a goggle on it 2-3 weeks ago and came with 1: have your water tested to find out whats in it. the mix that I got is (salt) table or sea salt don't mater quick lime, or borax and you need to know that some clay and silt is so fine it will take some time to settle
here some info from ohio state. Read down the page after watershed
I think Clay-B-Gone is a sodium silicate.
if its to clear water of a pond you might try bentonite, it also seals the bottom to keep water from leakin out.
winemakers use to clear cloudy wine.
repost;
archelogy students dispise Red Clay as much as we do. But they don't use "Clay-B-Gone". To dissolve Red Clay all you need is a free ion of floride, a free ion of hydrogen and water. So we're off to the DollarTree Store. Buy a big tube of floride toothpaste for 99 cents. Buy a big bottle of hydrogen peroxide 99 cents. Find an empty one gallon milk jug and fill with water. Pour in a quarter bottle of hydrogen peroxide. Add a big squirt of floride toothpaste and shake the jug gently. The color you are looking for is SKY BLUE. Pour the solution into your gold pan and add some clay caked dirt. Work your fingers around in the pan and pour off the slimy red muck. Add a little more clean water and pour it off. All that remains is silica, black sands and gold
The most common flocculent used in mining is Alum (usually Aluminum Sulphate). You can get Alum with magic expensive additives at a pool supply or buy the real thing cheap around $1 or $2 a pound at a chemical or food supply company.
Testing the pH and composition of the suspended solids might lead you to use other alum compounds based on other metals and salts. For a small weekend operation pool clarifying alum should serve you fine.
Nokta FoRs Gold, a Gold Cube, 2 Keene Sluices and Lord only knows how many pans....not to mention a load of other gear my wife still doesn't know about!
I like the Alum idea. Cheap, and gets the job done with minimal effort.
Also, that Alum powder is the best thing in the world to heal up
a cold sore. Just wet your finger and dab a little bit of the powder
directly on the sore. Yes, it's going to hurt like a biatch, but apply
it every 3-4 hrs. and that cold sore will be gone, post haste.
