I found this on craigslist, it was only a couple miles away. Paid 40 bucks. It looks like it has never been outside. The woman said her husband bought it, used it maybe 5 times and put it away. He died recently and she didn't want it. Felt kinda bad but she just wanted to get rid of it. It is one of the newer "Classics" It even has toggle pinpointing. It had fresh batteries in it so I fired it up when I got home. I think it works better than my DFX, I'm not kidding!! I don't know whether to sell it on eBay so I can buy a nice stainless water scoop or keep it as a back up. Does anyone know what it is worth? Here is a couple pics. Rich.

I bought my first detector 2 1/2 yrs ago, it was a whites classic III. It has a 9.5 in bluemax coil. It was in like new condition. I paid $40 at a pawn shop. Later I found out about a whites distributor up the road, so I took the classic III with me to his shop. Come to find out, he had originally sold this machine (still had his sticker on the battery). He offered $100 for it, which I gladly turned down. If he was offering $100 it's probably worth $200 atleast. There's not much difference between the classic II and classic III except an extra knob which I believe is the frequency adjust, and does classic II have the black sand switch? also the coil size...

I would say your classic II is atleast worth $100 to $150, but I would not sell it because they are excellent machines. 40 to 50 hrs run time on fresh batteries. Very lightweight! You can swing that baby all day long! Also good for kiddos because it really is a turn on and go machine. Decent backup too.

Heck of a find and a deal to go with it

Well it looks like you got a deal deal on that unit. I would now make it a game and see how long it will take to find the $40.00 you spent on it to break even, after that, it cost you nothing :headbang:

Many snows ago, my kids knew I collected coins so they purchased a Whites Coin Classic II for me for Christmas 1990. I have never looked back, detecting in Ireland, Israel, New Zealand, and around 9 states. I've updated twice (DFX now for 9 yrs), but I'll never sell my original Whites detector. At the time -- Dec 1990, they paid $155 for it.
