My son uses an older Classic ID. Very good detector. He uses an 8" coil and it does very well. It lacks some bells and whistles but gets great depth and is very dependable.

similar to the classic id, different frequency, i found a buffalo nickle about 8-9 in. in the back yard with an id, work very well, but they don't make a smaller coil than the 8" for the one you referred to. the classics work well in trashy areas, slow sweep speed, fast audio target recovery speed. if i was going to buy in this price range i would check out the fisher F-4 with 3 coils from what i understand as a Christmas special, very fast target recovery speed from what i understand, 425.00, 11DD coil 8" co centric and 4" coils
