Classic Car Guys! Need Help ID'ing These Chrome Door Moulding Trim Pieces.

Found these at my 1940's bottle dump today. I think they are exterior door moulding trim pieces from a 1930's or 1940's vehicle. They measure 28 1/4" long and are 5/8" wide.

I have found a couple of 1937-38 Plymouth hubcaps at this spot, but they could go to any car from that era. I would say the date range is from 1937 to 1948 or so. Any help would be appreciated.

The pics stink, but maybe you can still ID them. I'll try to take better pics tomorrow.

The only straight pieces of chrome on a prewar coupe or sedan would be along each side of the engine cover or hood. Try researching the Plymouth with that in mind. Good luck, someone will want to purchase them once you ID them. Sub 8-)

At only 28 inches long, I think they are too short to be hood trim. Maybe from the rear doors of a sedan? :dontknow:

I agree that once they are ID'd they will be worth a few bucks.

Probably stainless steel and not chrome

You are 100% correct. Chrome polish didn't do much to improve them, but a scotch-brite pad did clean them up nicely. I'll eliminate the word "chrome" from my eBay search. Maybe that will help me find them. Thanks!

Here's one of the clips that was attached to the moulding. Maybe it will help to ID it.

Wasn't trying to correct you, its the lack of rust that was the indicator...

Now dig a little deeper and find the car...

This one is killing me! Spent hours on eBay, but can't match them to any car. The door trim pieces from the 1940's look fatter, so I'm thinking they're from the 1930's. Too bad they don't have a part number on them...

I know I have seen those before! Or similar style! I looked and searched through pics online and can't find anything that stood out to me. Try 50's 60's in your search just to see. I thought at first they were early dodge plymouth, 60's area side moldings. but I'm not so sure after looking at pics. It's driving me nuts, I think I have seen those before. I had to polish them and paint the center. don't remember what car. I think the center was black.

Let me throw a wrench in this search by adding that it could be roof trim see attached picture.IMG_0180.webp

Ok this may be wayyy off but they remind me of old curtain rods

Definitely not curtain rods, since they have metal clips that snap the trim piece onto the vehicle. I've also found a lot of car stuff at this spot. Three 1938 Plymouth hubcaps, a 1948 license plate tag, oil cans, distributor cap, spark plugs and so on.

Never thought of that possibility! Thanks for making the search even more difficult! LOL!

Okay, I may have figured out what vehicle these mouldings go to, but I'm not positive. They look very similar to the rear door moulding on this 1939 Buick Special. Let me know what you think and maybe I can mark this one as solved!

One end is beveled like it and the other square? If so I think it would match either front or back doors on that car, it does look like a match. If both ends are squared off it wouldn't work for door trim, couldn't open and close door unless end is beveled.

Both ends are slightly rounded, but not beveled. Guess I'm still looking for a match!

Maybe they're roof or hood trim and not door trim. So annoying!
