Clad ?

clad coins are coins minted after 1964. 1964 was the last year the government minted silver coins. clad refers to the construction of the new coins,(except for halves and dollars) a copper slug in the middle with some kind of shiney metal (dont know what kind ::)) laminated on the front and back. if you take a new quarter and look at it from the side, you will see the copper middle. old silver coins don't have that copper in the middle. they are solid.

To piggyback on what hollowpointred said, clad just refers to newer coins that are mostly worth face value and have no collector value. You clean them up and put them back into circulation or save them until you have enough to buy a new coil. Clad is what gets in the way while we are looking for the good stuff.
