I found this in a field where a few small shot and a couple bullets were found. There was a civil war battle about a quarter mile away. Does anyone recognize these two items?

First item looks like a snap clasp. A pretty common chain end for leashes, dog-runs, etc. Don't know about the second one.

Note:
I found these about 12" deep in a corn field. Found with my XLT in all metal with no audio discrimination.

Baldingboy... if there was CW activity there at sometime, then your relic, the snap hook, may well be CW (or much newer).

With corn fields being turned and plowed it's not uncommon to get deap signals.

the strap & snap hook rig was commonly used by cav units in the CW to link a string of horses together so one man could lead or control them as a group when the cav men were being used as "dismounted" or ground troops === Ivan

Top looks like a snap hook for a horse

Ivan Salis & Montana Jim,
Thanks for the information guys. I think you might be right. I know it may sound like fantasy...but I dug these a good 12" to 14" in the ground! I used a Lesche ground shark shovel and I know the depth from the blade length. The soil at this depth took on a different texture, as if it hadn't been tilled in quite some time. Just my observation, but I think it might be a period find, Civil War or not.

Lafitte,
I don't think it is a dog leash or modern equivalent.

gypsyheart,
That was my first inclination.

The large object looks like a sword hanger. Not sure about the other.

It's horse tack... I've dug the same thing from stable areas... circa. 1860ish
Could be, then again it could have been used as a snap swivel for a sword belt too. Who knows? Know way to tell really other than taking in to account other items excavated in the same location to come up with a general concensus for the whole. :-\ :-\

Yeah the other day BB and I were huntin and he pulled this small metal disk about the size of a quarter out of the ground. It was red and white letters on it and it looked crimped around the edge. He says to me "Look I found some kind of Civil War Relic." I walked over and looked at it and shook my head in pity. Know what it said on top? ???

Coca-Cola! ;D :D Yeah CW alright buddy.!! ;D :D

Actually I hope the item you found above is from the CW given the location that you were hunting. I think it is about time one of us finds something we can positively say came from the CW.

well I got a 1863 "storecard" broas pie baker token --- the great thing is being a "dated" relic type item there is no doubt about it being civil war or not. Ivan
