The inkwell looks as though it is a Teakettle ink with a sheared lip. Since it has a smooth base it was probably made between 1865-1870. The Teakettle ink's typically are highly sought after depending on color variations, imperfections and rarity. Prices range anywhere between $200-$700. Nice inkwell.

Good Hunting !

In the UK ÂŁ50 ($100)

Yes, we have dug what are called "Igloo" or "Turtle" inkwells here in Virginia that are Civil War period that are very similar to the one that you have except they are domed or round on the top hence the nickname. THEY ARE HIGHLY SOUGHT and usually fetch around $500 give or take a hundred depending on the condition and color. Great find bud

Thanks to all for your tips.
You have helped me a lot !
