Civil war "sword tip?"

We found this at an old battlefield in NC. It looks like a broken tip of a sword? I do know Revolutionary war Bayonets were triangular And CW swords were flat.Ive been told that the groove in the side could be what is called a "blood groove" Could this be a broken tip of one? It was was about 5 inches deep when dug.

Or part of a worn thin horseshoe? They have a groove for the nail heads.

hard to say sadly -- its in rough shape --but cleaning it up to properly id it might "kill it" .

but might as well do it , nothing to lose if its not and if it is you need to "save" whats left of it.

Much too thick to be a sword tip.

And the fuller is far too deep and pronounced.
