Hey everybody! I was trying out a ridge overlooking a creek. I believe there used to be an old lightly-travelled trail in this area, as I found what looked to be a road bed, on which I found a brass pocket knife, several corset clasps, a CW cuff/kepi button, along with a slew of round balls of varying calibers. While up there I found a brass, silver plated hook that shares a similar design to the old Leech and Rigdon sword belt hooks, only this one is much smaller. I want to call it a sword hanger, but I’m hesitant as it’s the only other believed CW relic on this trail, aside for possibly the round balls, the general service button, and maybe the corset clasps. Anybody got any ideas on this one? Any assistance with an ID for this relic would be greatly appreciated and happy hunting!

As ARC mentioned, your find has a very thin construction. My first thought was horse halter spring clip. But to me, it looks more likely to be a strap guide that you'd find on a tent or on a 20thc knapsack. :icon_scratch:

At first glance i am going to say no.

Clean the upper area a bit more.... but it does not appear to match any known examples i have seen.
Far too "skimpy" / "thin".
I concur. I was thinking that something that thin would struggle to hold up a larger saber and scabbard. It could possibly be off of a leather rifle sling, which I guess could be pre, inter, or post war. There’s a popular deer trail through there, so it could have been from a hunter’s sling.

I also tried cleaning the upper eyelet, but unfortunately there is a remnant of the iron fasteners for the clip still present, which has rusted over the original brass.
