Would like to know if any of the bullets are confederate?
Rail road spike is self explanatory ha ha
Would like to have some info on the other iron items. Especially the bayonet looking thing?
I have several mangled bullets. And one that looks like it has teeth marks in it kinda weird.
Thanks
It all looks civil war related and horse related. Looks like a bullet puller or worm. The marks on the bullets often look like teeth marks from being fired and hitting chert or rocks. The confederate bullets that I dig and know for fact are confederate cause of the site are smooth enfields sometimes with a wood plug and the 58 cal 3 ringers. Do you know the battle or have it on any maps? The south used what they had and that was often taken from the North. Nice bunch of relics sir.
I would post some of the items in the what is it section for a positive I.D and a little more exposure. Nice relics.
Thank you for the reply. I was told these came from around the mannassas area in virginia. Im really wanting to know about the bayonet looking thing. I also have a box full of what looks bigger pieces of lead or iron cannon ball fragments. I am from East tennessee. Nice to meet you.
The very first bullet on the left in your first photo appears to be a CS Gardner bullet. Look at the cavity. Gardners were actually made of two pieces of lead. One was the bullet and one was an insert that held the paper powder bag. You should see the seam in the cavity between the two pieces of lead.
Most conventional bullets of the period were inside of the paper powder bag. Gardners were unusual in that the bullet was outside of the paper. See if you can find photos of non-dug Gardners compared to more conventional bullets of the time and you'll see what I mean. I've dug probably a thousand or more Gardners.
