Civil War site find......

At a Union encampment yesterday, no idea if this is from that time period....the puzzling thing to me is groove on the inside. Any ID help welcome, thanks.

That is some type of bushing. The groove is too allow lubricant to pass through.

Some kind of shaft bushing looks kind of modern with the machined groove inside
