Civil War Site Find. But what is it?

Ok guy's I found this at a civil war site in WV. I found it by a creek that was part of a civil war camp ground, but I don't no what it is. It looks like it had a sharp edge at one time. Hope you guy's can help?

scubadude, can you give the length and height? Also are those two rivet heads in the top right picture or rust bubbles?

Thanks for posting the extra pics, and yes, it definately looks hand forged. As it has a chisel bevel, I thought it might be the lower heel of a small goosewing hatchet, with the bit of the iron remaining that leads to what I suppose is called the eye on a goosewing head. It's awfully small though.


p.s. edit: still hung up on trying to identify this; I think if you narrow down the goosewings further, and type in google search (images) "small bearded hewing hatchet" you might find a match to your (what looks to me like) broken off tail piece.
