Hello everyone. Yesterday I went out for a 2 1/2 hour dig at my favorite site. We have had alot of rain lately and the signals were flying out of the ground. I believe i found a camp of some sort..I found 3 tent rope tightners, 2 3 ringers, Fired Sharps bullet, a Really cool St. Vincent Charm, and the coolest thing I think is the Trade Token I found. It has a hole in the middle of it. On the front of the token it has the numbers 4084..Then on the back it has Good for 5 Cents in trade. Don't know how old it is and I haven't found it on the net yet, but I will search. Also the piece of brass looks like a gun swab...You put the patch in the little slot...I'm not sure. If you guys know ...Chime in feel free...Well thanks for looking..zaxfire69

Thanks Guys. I love seeing these relics come out of the ground as well. It is a rush.

I'll have to do some searching on that brass piece...but that many tent rope tighteners, plus the right age of lead and other relics (like the ball button) coming from that site--I think you've got a good spot going.

Cheers,

Buck

BB I forgot to even mention the ball button. I've dug 2 out of the site so far. Yeah it is a really small little area where this stuff is coming from. Funny thing is that I'm also finding WW1 era finds in the same area. If you can imagine the WW1 era stuff is on the top layers and deeper down in the dirt say 8-9 inchs I'm finding 3 ringers and lead. It is almost like soldiers from the civil war era and later WW1 era guys used the same area. Really strange. Thanks for helping I'd that brass piece. I have dug several and haven't been able to I'd them.

super finds!! and love the token,,wow :icon_thumright:

Thanks TTH.

Great finds Zaxfire. That does look like the end of a cleaning rod. The slotted end looks a lot like the ones they still make these days. Based on the small size of the one you found, it may have been used to swab out the cylinder on a cap and ball pistol. Very interesting seeing that ball button. I found one myself today.

That wouldn't be uncommon Zaxfire. Very often, a spot that looked good in the Civil War still looked good in the early 20th century, and in some cases where the ground hasn't been disturbed or developed, still looks good for a camp today

Msrelic congrats on your button. Looks like mine. Yours is in better shape. I have found one intact like yours in the area I'm digging. Sentinel I think you may be right. It makes perfect sense this place is a great camp area.
