Relic Hunting
We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas this year spending the holiday with my in laws.

Most of my wife's forefathers fought in either the Revolutionary and or Civil war.
And in their journey's they acquired some amazing relics with wonderful photos to share with the future relatives.

One of which was this beautiful Civil War pistol that sets proudly on the brick mantle of my Aunt's house.

Her Great, great relative died with it in an 1864 TN. Battle.

The photo is of him holding the pistol across his chest. Not visible. Bad photo. What we're needing is some more info on the firearm. Where it was made, year, caliber etc...

I have to apologize. The photos are rough. The camera wasn't mine and I had to make due.

After admiring the historical firearm may Auntie asked me " Would you like to see the Tennessee long rifle?" OVER 4 FEET in length.

It was his favorite firearm.

For those of you who have never held a TN. long rifle it is very heavy and over 4 feet long. I'm 6'2 And that thing is just under 2 ft of me. Think about it.

Thank for the help

It's a colt revolver. Looks like an 1860 .44 caliber. There are people on here who can tell you more though

As far as I know Leech & Rigdons have round barrels and the Colts have hexagonal. From the pic it looks to be .44 If you could measure the inside diameter of the barrel or cylinder chambers that would help.

I would say its either an 1851 .36 cal. Colt Navy or a .44 cal. Colt Army. I have a replica .44 fun to shoot.

Could also be made by "Manhattan Firearms" they made an octagon barrel gun as well. Almost identical to a colt.

Its a valuable gun Mike. Colt can tell you the history of the gun by the serial number for a fee but I would have to search for the site. I think its a good Colt number. Read this: "Serial number 7326 would make it 1862 production" .reply 12. l.cutler is very knowlegable about these guns. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,284916.0.html

Hey Neighbor,
No matter what the namebrand, it is SWEET! My advice: Stay in good graces with the Aunt! I'm glad you had a fun Christmas; we did too! Breezie
PS: Super cute onesy!

I THINK it is a Manhattan, not 100% sure though. Definitely not a Colt. There is a line of printing on top of the barrel, can't make it out though. This is probably the manufacturers name, if you can see it again check out the markings.
