Civil War or Post Civil War buttons???

How can one tell whether a button made by Horstmann or Waterbury was made during or just after the end of the Civil War? I would like to know if the attached photos are of a Civil War or post-Civil War button.

The eagle infantry button could have been civil war, dont know if they used them prior to it but i imagine they could have right?
