Civil war insignia but which one is it?

I know that I should know this one. I have seen them before but I can't find them now. Its just a piece but to what type of insignia?

that's cool. Right off I don't know what it is but would lean toward a precivil war hatplate. How big is it?

I think it's part of an early hatplate. If no one figures it out before then the Northern Va Relic Hunters show is on April 9th & 10th. Mike Singer will be there he is an expert on hatplates and insignia. A nice guy too.

I don't have a book specifically on hatplates but looked through a couple books that have some in them and could find nothing like yours. Sorry

From my searching, it could be the bugle relates to voluntary/militia.

the bugle is seen on union civil war infanty cap badges, but the cannon on it is odd -- vollunter artillerymen ?

I agree. But I have done a lot of searching and can't find this one. I found several from 1812 ish through the 1840's that are real close. But no cigar.

The design is very similar to that on the Zouave peace powder flask.
