Civil War "I" button

Went to a nearby forest last night to get out and do a little detecting. I had previously found a 3-ringer here so I was hoping to maybe come across a relic or two. After swinging around some big trees and trampling through some poison ivy I got a good signal. Dug down about 6-8'' and came out with this old looking button :o

I think it is a infantry button from the civil war. I'm not sure :icon_scratch: so any ID help or info would be appreciated. I also dug the bullets pictured with the button and any info on them is welcome as well. Thanks.

Re: Civil War "I" button

Your Darn right it is an Infantry button.
And it is a beautiful one at that! Looks to be cast one part convex button, white metal, Pewter or deriv. , Looks to be coat size, southern "local" manufacture... A beautiful Confederate Civil war infantry button Ref: Albert CS185B, Tice CSI278B1. . ....Go back to the woods where you dug this, and grid that area off. Slowly. That is a fantastic and hard to come by find my friend.
I'd be willing to bet it was from the 1864 campaign.
Beautiful Button

Re: Civil War "I" button

WOW!!! I dug a lot of bullets when I lived in Atlanta, but never anything that nice!!! I don't know what part of town you're in, but the park at Freedom Parkway and Moreland Ave saw some CW action, in places you can find the streets and foundations where they bulldozed the neighborhood in the 80's. I hit it quite a bit, but I know there's more there.

Good score!

Re: Civil War "I" button

The bullet on the far right appears to be a modern 45 or 9mm lead bullet.

Re: Civil War "I" button

Very nice solid cast Confederate infantry button!
