Civil War Hat Pin???? ID Help Needed.

Hi, I dug this owl surrounded by a horseshoe pin years ago in a site that was used as a Confederate Cavalry campsite as well as a small skirmish with federal Cavalry. Any help in ID'ing this pin would be greatly appreciated. I have included pics of the pin as dug and after a mild cleaning along with a pic beside a quarter for size comparison. Thanks,

Could be some type of regimental insignia, but I haven't seen an example of this type before. I'll keep looking (I have a hunch that this one will be tough).
