Civil war gun part?

I found this at a civil war encampment along with a slew of bullets, some buttons, knap sack rivets, etc. Is it a gun part or something else? I can’t seem to find it pictured anywhere and I am not that familiar with older firearms. It appears to be made of brass.

Agree that it doesn't look like part of a firearm. The only possibility would be the bushing(s) on the opposite side of a US Springfield lockplate - but they would NEVER have been drilled off center or slotted.

Thanks for looking. It looks homemade and the slot looks like it was for a screwdriver. This field does have an occasional piece of more modern junk so maybe it is not civil war after all. Any suggestions are still welcome.
