I'll be attending the Diggin' In Virginia XXV hunt this coming week and wanted to get warmed up for the hunt so I decided to go detecting at a site I gained access to back in April of this year. I've detected the hot spots pretty well, but there are over 400 acres so you will never find it all. I hit a field that has very little targets today, previously been in there and mostly modern bullets and casings and a couple colonial buttons were found before. Today I worked my way up over the hillside and first off I get a fired sharps, make a streamline right down the middle of the field and the first good target was a watch key, which was a first for me. Then 4 steps away I get another nice tone on the F75 and out popped a staff button for sure! I knew it was civil war, thought probably an NY staff button, but with a little brushing away of some dirt, it revealed "Militia" at the bottom, then with more brushing it revealed "Mass. Volunteer". A sweet but and completely intact. It's hard to find those staff buttons with the backs still intact, for me anyway. Haven't gotten a back mark yet, so don't know the variety of the button. Worked down a little then looped back up around and right next to a tall patch of grass I pulled out my first 2 cent piece. It's a little worn and toasty, but I'll take it any day! Not a lot of finds, but quality ones for sure. Thanks for looking and pictured below are finds from today then previous finds from the last 2 hunts. Also snagged a nice insulator from an old telephone pole. There's a bunch more and will get the rest next time! Thanks for looking and HH!
