Relic Hunting
Friday I was calling some of my local landowners and either they were not home or fields were still in crops or have not been cut yet. My 1700's site was having a wedding this weekend so that one was also a no go for Saturday. So I decided to go down to near Chattanooga to hunt with one of my digging buddies who lives near there. Bob (Hornbush on Youtube) had a site near Chickamauga that has produced some relics. We only found buckballs there today on the hill we were hunting. We then decided to move to another location that was much better. Only had a couple hours to hunt it and I found some minnie balls and my first coin with the TDI. I thought it was an Indian Head penny but it turned out to be a 1914 Wheat penny. Although we did not find much today it was still great to get out and hunt.

Congrats on the CW relics. I live about 40 miles north of Chattanooga and was actually born in Morristown..... ha ha. Been in a few CW relics here but awfully scattered. Got 6 Merrill Carbines, Eagle GS, and Barber dime over the last several evening hunts but the CW relics seem to be few and far between now days. Love to see em posted. Can't wait for the corn to come down in a place I just got permission. Never know, but should have some awesome potential per my research. Got permission, now just have to wait. Give me a shout if ya ever want a road trip and we will see what shows up.:icon_thumleft:

Well done TH. Any day you can recover some CW history is a good day.
Congrats,
MM

25 years ago , a few of us Chattanooga guys were coming up there looking for Longstreets " lost winter camp" . We all came to the conclusion that it was under water near Bean Station. What say you ? Has it ever been found ?

Look's like a good day to me ,I agree with the others , any CW relics these day's are good ones esp, for me in hard hunted N.GA. ,such relics become harder to find as everyday passes . Good Work.

Yes I found it. It is on private property that the landowner will not allow anyone to hunt. I know him personally and he has agreed to let me and my buddies hunt later this fall. He has found a CS spur and a few bullets and buttons and he doesn't metal detect. He told me a couple weeks ago that you can not kick the dirt and not find a bullet. Said they are scattered like it rained bullets. He has done a lot of research as one of his ancestors was in Longstreet's unit. He told me where Longstreet made his camp which is on his neighbor's property (and told me he can get me access to it as well) and all his troops were scattered with most on his property. As you can imagine 20,000 troops is going to take up a lot of property. I am so excited in that I don't think this area has ever been hunted with a metal detector. He has found a lot just laying on the ground or after he plowed. I will post our finds later this year after our hunt. We will probably hunt it after we get back from DIV in November.

Glad you got out Randy with some good finds as well. HH, Q.

Hey Quindy. Long time no see. I haven't been doing much hunting as fields have not been cut or in crops. Waiting for colder weather go get here for sure. I did try to hunt our camp in the woods a couple weeks ago. Man that was torture. I have never seen so much overgrowth. Usually there is some open spots where one could swing but it was like a jungle in there. I did manage one drop so my day wasn't a bust. We have never hunted it and not found something. We have several sites lined up for this fall/winter. And with DIV fast approaching I am getting more excited every day for the season to start. Talk to you soon.
