I'm not sure that there was an accurate accounting of their age in that link, or link from that link. I don't know how long that pattern was made, but they were available at hardware stores many moons ago: PoohBang - Vintage Gear for Guys: VINTAGE COPPER RIVETS AND BURS 1900'S
So I don't think attributing them to the military would be a safe assumption, as had been made by some.

Thanks nhbenz! That's exactly what they are. I wasn't sure at first what I had because it was found in a turf field that is right next to great swamp in ri. The king Philips war war fought within a half mile of the field. Along with the rivet I have pulled musket balls , ox shoes, arrowheads, old buttons, and some old English half penny's .thanks for the help
