Re: Heart Shaped Rosette?

It might be Civil War era Martingale, I have one just about identical to it and that is what I was told. I found mine at a similar site for age, mid 1800s to later 1800s occupation.

Don

It seems to match almost exactly (minus the markings) to this image I found online. It also matches the time frame from the site as well. Thanks for the ID!!

Re: Heart Shaped Rosette?

definitely a martingale heart. I found one many yrs ago in Stafford Co. , Va at a Civil War site. Nice find,,,I've only found that one in all the time I've hunted.

I wish I had taken my camera with me. There are old wagon wheels and farm equipment scattered around the site. It is very grassy, so I may not be able to return until the fall.

I did a little research on the property, and found some interesting info. The House nearby was built in 1850 and served as the site of a charcoal mill. The business relied on distilleries as its chief customers so when Prohibition came along, the business died.

Although this Martingale is not a battle relic, I have a good idea of the ID of the person who lost it, so many years ago. Any time I can place an item with the probable owner, it is the treasure of a lifetime for me!

Great Find Neil! I have found a couple bridal rosettes but nothing like that.

Nice find
