Dave, there was a George Alexander of the 2nd Reg. Heavy artillery from Connecticut but he was in Co L. Of course, they changed companies during the CW. He was the only "G" first initial in the Union Army from Connecticut. This was in the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors system database. It could be from an earlier war too. Great find. HH, Quindy.

Looks like it has N.G. for National Guard so I found this little bit of info online "The Connecticut Army National Guard was originally formed in 1672. During the War of 1812, the Federalist state government refused to place the state militia under control of the Democratic-Republican national government, which resulted in friction, especially following British attacks on New London and Stonington. The Militia Act of 1903 organized the various state militias into the present National Guard system."

What ever it turns out to be it's still a good find, but I hope it is a civil war dog tag Congrats.

I'm guessing it is a CW veterans reunion medallion. Likely had a ribbon and a cross bar with pin on back. Perhaps given at a reunion of veterans.

I'm no expert nor do I claim to play one on tv although that item looks to be older than Civil War period. Just look at that crest in the middle. Man that thing is cool to look at!

Great find! Looks like an original tag to me. Don't think it's some kind of "reunion" tag at all, as it would have date(s) on it. Looks authentic! CONGRATS...........Hogge Oh......Banner!
