Just thought I'd share this find here. Figured their may be some appreciation of the history it shows.

Found it tucked away in the pages of an old book.

Well, I'm afraid my knowledge is limited but it does say this person is entitled to discharge due to Hepatitis and Chronic Diarrhea. So, a discharge payment of some sort?

I can never read that old cursive script from the 1800's. I get some of it then get stumped. Is it a discharge from service document?

looks like a US discharge cert., would guess it is like a DD214 today

I do apologize for the quality of the pics. I'm gonna have to get another camera eventually.

But, if you expand and look at this one closely, part of the explanation is in the form.
Just above the large script writing.



It says "...is now entitled to discharge by reason of...."



The the header refers to discharge too, so I suppose this is probably the signed copy that the commander would keep for his files.

It is a VERY special find for me! But, I guess in the world of collecting it's just one more piece of paper that survived since the Civil War.
