Last August, I was down in Culpeper county and decided to hop into a creek bordering a campsite to see if anything was in there. Indeed there was! Found a bunch of Williams cleaners, a dropped three ringer, and a canteen spout and a stopper! The stopper was deep in the mud, and the cork fully preserved. It was nerve racking experience waiting for the cork to dry out under supervision from a former archaeological preservationist, but it did over time and looks as good as it did back in the winter of 1863!
