Dug this a few years ago in an undiscovered camp. When I first dug this it was caked in dirt and thought I had a panel plate of some sort. It's made of sheet brass and the iron center is like a plug and it has a raised nipple on one side. I found two others here, but this is the best preserved one. Been wondering for a while now what this is. Could be modern, as I have no clue, but 99% of the stuff in this camp was period as it's way in the forest away from modern development and it has that period look to it. Since it's from a Kentucky cavalry camp, could be cavalry related, just not sure and would like any input. Thanks.

NOTE ADDED-Forgot to say the green with writing is paint and labeling of location(not specific as to give away location) and date found. I do this with all historical artifacts.

We had one of these come up on the forum back in mid-November.
My guess what that it was part of the inside of an old vacuum tube (which I no longer assert).

If it's the same thing, here's a (better), or at least more complete photo of the item in question:

It has a similar pattern design, but not the same item though as this has an iron plug and all four sides are folded over. Thanks for the help though. The other two (not nearly as complete) also have the same iron plug, so that had some kind of a purpose I'm hoping someone will know.

Please post side view photos - they might help ID it.

it reminds me of the top to the ration can I reconstructed in this video, except yours is brass and mine wasn't.

Thanks for the input and also sharing your video. Wow, that was a great restoration, I love how it ended up. You are right, it does look similar to the top of your ration can. Could be something similar, closest thing yet to what my piece is I have so far seen. Thanks again.

Are the two other pieces exactly like this one?

Were they found close together?

I'd like to see the other pieces even if the condition is poor.

Yes the others are exactly like this one. They were probably within twenty feet of one another. Don't know where they are at the moment as they are in one of the boxes I keep relics from this site in. I do recall that one is the iron plug and the brass is crumpled around it, which was purposely destroyed. If I can manage to find them I'll get some photos posted.
