I found the brass finial along with the other items in the pic this afternoon all in the same area within 30ft or so of each other. My question is I am not sure if it is from a cap box - cartridge box or maybe something totally different? Is there anyway to tell if its Union or Confederate with the other items found? I found the items in the woods here in NC. Thanks for your help!

That little pointed doodad looks like part of a snap that secures leather holsters, it can be fastened to the holster and the leather flap has a hold punched into it that slips over that doodad, or it can be used with a metal snap like on Vietnam era web gear, canteen pouches and the likes, and I always chalk up that wire thing as a rivet when I find one. Heck but I don't have access to Civil War sites.

Thanks for the comment Ant.. The finial could be from some some kind of gun or knife holster like you mentioned. The hook is a J hook from a knapsack.

The pointy brass object you asked about is much too long and too pointy to be a finial from a cap-box or cartridge-box. It is definitely the finial from a socket-bayonet scabbard's brass end. It fit into the thin sheetbrass sleeve which covered the end of the bayonet's leather scabbard. Yours is the correct shape to be from a civil war era Springfield socket-bayonet's scabbard. See the photo below.
