I found this item on private property near Gettysburg with permission. The property is adjacent to an identified Confederate hospital site...a farm property. This property was originally part of the farm. Records indicate that Confederate hospital wagons were parked on this site. I have recovered a number of Confederate CW relics from this site. I found this about 8" down. It is 2" long by 2" wide. There was a home on part this property until the early 1930's so it is possible this a pin from post-CW. The Army adopted a pin somewhat like this in 1902. Has anyone ever seen anything like this from Civil War artifacts? Have seen this symbol on CW hospital steward chevrons.

Definitely Medical Corp. I would guess it's a collar pin so not likely CW. Maybe WWI or WWII.

Still a cool dig.

Thank you! I have sent off pictures to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. If you look at the pins at the link you sent and compare the shape there are noticeable differences. Where the heads of the snakes are, the length of the post, etc.

I saw a lot of those same/similar on display at Fort Pickett (w of Petersburg Virginia), they had a big hospital site there as well.
