Found this button today at a new site I got permission to hunt. Found several pieces of clad and this cool old button. Measures 15mm across with an eagle and shield on the front, and C Kenyon New York on the back. My first find this old and pretty neat considering I found it in Illinois.

This might be of some interest to you:

Thank you, it does have the raised shield. Most of the WW1 buttons I was seeing all seemed like they had a rim around the outer edge on the front side.

Nice button - general service 1854 to 1901, after which they went to the Great Seal design. So you could make the case for a civil war vet, though just as likely general service post-civil war until 1901. Some research on the genealogy of the home site may provide more context. Very nice find regardless. Congrats.

The backmark pretty much post dates the Civil War, and the style of the eagle changed as well.

Yes - a quick search and I agree Mud Hut. Saw C. Kenyon established his mfg. co. in 1884 on 57 Ave. NYC. Thus 1884 to 1901 would be the proper dating. Thanks for the catch.

Thank you very much for the info
