Need help identifying this button. Found in an area with other civil war buttons. Anchor.webp

Great Find! Wish I could help.

We need the size and a good pic of the back. My guess is it is a more modern (early 20th C?) civilian coat button.

It does have the look of a blazer button but it does also look pretty old what does the back say?

It looks like a three piece button. That would be for officers I can see there are letters on the top of the anchor ...NCN?

Cool button. Just did some research on British Royal Navy buttons.
Here is a nice link. I don't think I saw yours there, but there were a lot of similar ones pictured.

I have searched but cannot find any pictures for Civil War Naval Academy Buttons. Peter Iredale, Can you tell me why you believe it is?

Sorry been really busy, here's a picture of the back.

Good pic.

It does look like a 19th C button based on the back. Can you tell us what it says on the back?

Just post whatever letters you can read. Sometimes we can figure it out with just a few.

I don't think your button is American military. Tice does not show one like it in his book, and in Albert's book most of the buttons that show just an anchor have the line (ain't no ropes on a boat) wrapped around the anchor shaft. There was an exception to that but it was a once piece button. Looking at the back, I agree it has some age. I would suggest a foreign navy perhaps.

Check out some of the French navy here. Not exact but getting close.
