Civil War Button?

Need help identifying this button. Found in an area with other civil war buttons.

We need the size and a good pic of the back. My guess is it is a more modern (early 20th C?) civilian coat button.

It looks like a three piece button. That would be for officers I can see there are letters on the top of the anchor ...NCN?

There three or four buttons on the Waterbury website that are similar to yours. All are in the fashion category.

Cool button. Just did some research on British Royal Navy buttons.
Here is a nice link. I don't think I saw yours there, but there were a lot of similar ones pictured.

It does look like a 19th C button based on the back. Can you tell us what it says on the back?

Just post whatever letters you can read. Sometimes we can figure it out with just a few.

I can't make anything out on the back. Looks like there is no writing.

I don't think your button is American military. Tice does not show one like it in his book, and in Albert's book most of the buttons that show just an anchor have the line (ain't no ropes on a boat) wrapped around the anchor shaft. There was an exception to that but it was a once piece button. Looking at the back, I agree it has some age. I would suggest a foreign navy perhaps.
