So, tell me if I'm wrong: Union general service button, Waterbury button co 1860 to 1865. civil war artifact.

I believe it could possibly be from either the Indian war or the civil war. My reason for believing it could be from the Indian war is because of the style of the eagle.

thank you for your answer.. I said civil war because of the marking on the back of the button. on a website, they were giving 1860 to 1865 for this one. but me, I'm really not a specialist about that.
thanks again..

Notice the shield on the eagle. It is more pronounced than on the civil war era buttons. Also the wings are at more of a 3 and 9 oclock angle. The civil war ones were more upright. Your button came out around the 1870s and was used until 1902 when it was replaced with the great seal button, which is still in use today.

I call those "chicken head" buttons. The eagle head is thinner than the CW time frame buttons. I think it is pre-war general service, I could be wrong though. I don't have my button book with me. Nice find.

thank you for all the answers.. so maybe more an "Indian War" button.. that's great for me too..
