Nice find. Can you see what the back says. That would help.

Hard to read upside down, but it may be R and W robinson (albert gs8)

boondocker,
check out this site. It will give you back mark identifications. I think the key is to determine what the back says. Then try to find it on the list. Good luck.

Garibaldi, I should have explained in my earlier post, this button (staff button, which "donedugitallup" already correctly identified by class) if it says "robinson" is variety GS 8, the only one out of over 15 varieties of staff button that are backmarked "Robinson".

Yes Bigcypresshunter, that is in fact Albert GS 8 (and Tice listing GS-3L24S-3P) It is the same button listing type , the smaller cuff being the abbreviated name.

Of interest here is that it appears to say ROBINSONS with an S on the end.

Yes Cy, that is very interesting. Robinson (makers) did use an s on their name on some of their flats (1834-48). Albert doesn't list this button with an "s", nor does Tice!

Dam, Just one time I thought I beat Johnnyi and Bigcy to the punch. Someday I'll get one. Good Job once again. You both have identified about 82.5% of my finds.

Ha! thanks Garibaldi but don't forget "dugitallup" who called it a staff button first shot! :icon_thumleft:

Nice work on the backmark ID :icon_thumright: The button listed on Ebay also reads 'Robinsons Makers'.

Could it be like with the Great Seal buttons that older backs were used for later buttons?
