I was out with a friend this morning continuing our hunt of a Civil War camp site. I had to leave a bit early but she stayed and this is what she came up with. She said the signal was very weak but decided to dig. As she got deeper, the signal got stronger. Does anyone know anything about this one, it's in great shape and is a cuff button. Thanks.

Just found it on the net, its an Independence Guard 12th New York Militia Civil War button! Pretty cool, hadn't seen one before. Thanks for looking.

Wow!! That's a sweet button! They don't come in any better shape. I can't ID it but I'm sure someone will.

Beautiful button!! Wish mine come out in that condition. Sorry I did a brief research and couldn't come up with anything.

If you'd like to learn the specific time-period when the button you found was made, we'll need you to provide a well-focused closeup photo of your button's backmark (the maker's/seller's marking on the back). Many New York State Militia buttons continued to be manufactured after the end of the civil war.
