I had a fun hunt yesterday, the water was cool and clear and the finds plentiful. One area I was in is a wading area that is almost paved with modern coins. I dug some, but it was toward the end of the hunt and I tired of it perhaps a little too quickly. I did manage one beat up ring there, so maybe I should go back.

Here is an interesting sinker that was made by pouring lead into a bottle cap and adding a hook fastener. It's a first for me!

Next up is somewhat of a mystery to me. I have found many of these over the years, but can't figure out why. It is a mold sinker that has had the eye chopped off. There is no way to attach a line, so what were they used for? Any ideas?

Next is a Civil War minie ball that was pounded into a box like thingy. Just thought it was interesting.

And finally is a Civil War canteen pewter spout that some soldier has carved a spider web like design into it. His artistic abilities pretty much match mine :P

Thanks for looking!

Great finds. The bottle cap sinker is a trick taught to me by an old time Duck Hunter who used them to balance and weight his carved decoys. He'd put the decoy in a stock tank and see how it floated. He'd tie the anchor line then he'd attach the bottle cap weights with small brass screw eyes to get the deke to sit right in the water.. Today's injection or blow molded decoys make those type of tweaks obsolete.

Happy hunting.

Wow aquachigger! :o You did well at the wading area yesterday! :notworthy:

If that was me . . . I would've never gotten tired finding all those treasures!

Listen hear Aquachigger,I'll make a deal with ya,Tell me where it is and I'LL GO BACK FOR YA!

eye probably broke off, if you get a bubble in the mould it weakens the sinker. I have a couple of bottle cap sinkers too,I like the thumbprints. stick thumb in soft dirt pour sinker and drill or pound nail through for an eye. nice finds.

Thanks for chiming in. I've never heard of a "thumbprint" sinker, but is sounds very feasible. I will definitely go through my collection to see if I have anything like that. As far as a weak pour, that makes perfect sense too. And the wading pool treasures... dude, pretty much all I found there was modern change. But I do want to go back, but there are other places I need to check out that may be L.O.A.D.E.D.... (always dreaming, that I am :tongue3: ) Thanks for the comments everyone!
