vpone...

click on this link...

http://www.baymediapro.com/collection/bulletsearch.htm

then click on bullet database

then click on "number of rings - select 3 rings / search...

take a good look at whats there...

and pay attention to the base of your bullet... is it flat? etc...

Good luck. Oh yea - It does look dropped... from what I can see.

hey montana -

wow - what a great site, never new there were so many variations of civil war bullets - VERY interesting stuff thanks !

for anyone interested, I think it's a 3 ring, miniball extended base used by the Union

thanks again !

Can anyone identify this bullet for me? It is probably not a Civil War bullet, but I am still curious as to what kind of bullet it is. Thanks!old_bullet_from_field.jpg

B1997, your bullet appears to be one the varieties of 1880s Maynard Rifle bullets shown in the photo below. You did not give us any measurements of your bullet's diameter and length, so I can't tell you exactly which caliber it is (such as .37 or .50-caliber) among the Maynard varieties shown in the photo. You'll need to measure its diameter and length super-precisely (with a digital caliper, in 1/100ths-inch), and then compare it with the inch-scale in the photo.

I see you are a brand-new member here at TreasureNet. First, welcome! :) Second, please accept this friendly-intentioned advice. When you want to get the correct identification of an unknown relic you've found, you'll have better luck posting it in its own "new" discussion-thread, instead of inserting it into an old discussion-thread.

It also helps to read and follow the instructions located at the very top of the What-Is-It? forum, in the post titled "Please Read Before Posting Items In What-Is-It?".
