Random Belt Buckles/Coins/Buttons I came across

Does anyone recognize any of these pieces or have any idea what any of them could be worth?

I kind of think the R Lee coin (or medal?) looks like someone just made some fake piece in a hurry but I don't really know.

post pictures of the backs of the US buckle and the eagle bridle rosette also the back of the coin thing

4th pic down appears to be a McCormick Reaper Centennial from 1931. If the back has some horse drawn machinery on it its a match, cause the bust is definitely right. Its a listed So Called Dollar. Since I see no other details on the obverse, I'm thinking its pretty low grade and probably worth less than $10.

You need to take these relics to a knowledgeable source. Even on ebay fakes are hard to detect. The pull tab is the real deal though.:laughing7:

Yea I want to get them authenticated/appraised. The problem is that I have a lot of things and it might cost a few hundred to get paperwork for everything if its legit and if its not legit well thats wasted money. I'm afraid that I'll end up spending more money on the authentication then I will earn back.

I don't have too many more pictures since I'm not home atm but here is one of the first one. I will have more pictures when I'm back home for a few days which is when I plan on trying to unload it all / get it authenticated sadly that won't be for a month.

Also my prize possession is the bag. I'm confident that one is legit. I've been offered $300 for it but I'm told I can get $1,000

Those pictures only cover about 1/4 of what I have. Last time I was home a month ago I took pictures of 17 different pieces and I still had a ways to go.

Now I'm assuming that at least half of the things I have are fake just because there are so many fakes out there and most of my stuff was given to me years ago, so I never looked into if everything was legit or not till now.

I'm banking that one of the coins or medals I have is worth a good amount tho. I hope. Need new car funds. My fingers are crossed because my grandmother use to go antiquing a lot and she picked out a $20,000 painting for a few bucks like 15 years ago and gave it to my mom. She picked out the majority of my collection also. Sadly the display sits in a room where no one ever goes and my car is a 1993 so yea.

And the 4th pick down the one of who ever that man is just has some quote etched in it if I remember correctly.

Does anyone know any legitimate knowledgeable sources that can authenticate with paperwork these sort of items? I'm in MD but can travel to Va or WV pretty quickly.

The Union belt plate assuming it is period will have a range value of $100-$250 or so depending on condition and what type of hooks on the back. there are two types of studs made. the "arrow" hooks and "puppy paw" studs. the "puppy paw" studded plates are worth more because they were made pre-1863 or so. Collectors put a premium on those. so if it is complete and has the puppy paw hooks it would retail for around $250. On ebay it would likely bring $150-200 on a good day.

the small dug eagle button is worth retail $5 or so. the bullets are worth $2-5. I would need to see pics of the backs on the SC buttons. that will determine if they are wartime or not. If they are wartime they would retail at around $60 each or so. I suspect they are not wartime though and if so they would retail at $10-15 each.

The large circular item appears to be a US Army rosette circa WWI. It might be worth retail $10 or so.

I see a small colonial shoe buckle that would retail between $10-20.

I am a part time dealer and full time collector of pre-1865 items so the numbers I gave you are close. artifacts are a little down overall. so if you put them on ebay I would expect less.

If you are looking to sell them I might just group them together rather than selling them separately due to time and effort constraints.

The SC buttons will make the difference between a $150 group to a dealer vs. a $200 offer price. If the SC's are good they look like they would be the 19mm version which is less desirable 21mm coatsized version. I see them being offered all the time at $60 or so.

hope this helps. if you need better guesstimates post pics of the back of the belt plate and the buttons.

Thank you very much. I very much appreciate your input. I will bump this thread again in 2-3 weeks, which is the next time I am home with new more detailed pictures of everything.

What do you think of this ammo pouch?

sorry, I don't check this forum regularly and just noticed the update. my guess is this is a model 1861 cartridge box due to it being dated to 1863. though it could be an 1855 model. I am pretty sure it is good and not a repo. though someone could have put repo tins in it etc. But assuming it is all 100% pre-1865 it would have a retail value of approx. $400-$$450. if you put it on ebay I am guessing it would go for $300-350 at this moment. things on ebay are a little down at this time of writing. it looks okay condition-wise overall though the cartridge box plate look like it was cleaned some time ago. I prefer a smoky patina but have noticed some collectors like the shine. I would carefully take the plate off if possible and look for any maker's mark or soldier carving. but if the leather pieces holding it in are too brittle to remove I would leave it alone.

if it is maker marked it will add about $50 to the price. My guess to a dealer who has inspected it and likes it overall would offer $250-$300. maybe a little more, maybe a little less. just a ballpark idea.
