Civil War buckle? Please tell me it's not a replica!!

I found this buckle while hunting today. It has a green patina working
and was down about 9-10 inches. My gut tells me it's a replica, but my
vanity wants it to be the real thing. If I can at least get some information
on the maker and an approx. date it was made, I would be very happy. I
can't find any ID marks on it anywhere and I think it may be copper or brass
as it feels fairly heavy for its size. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks............. Gold Nuggets :hello:

I doubt that your buckle is a fake. That plate was made and used after the civil war and because of that it doesn't hold a great deal of value so I doubt it would be worth dublicating.

It's Spanish-American war period. They do reproduce them but I doubt yours is a repro. It isn't civil war but still a cool find
Some are found at civil war site because The army had maneuvers and followed the routes of the civil war troop. the were maneuver's in Va in 1904 that followed CW troop movement and we sometimes dig stuff the the 1904 maneuvers.

I am definately no expert on anything that is related to the Civil War period either Randy. The buckle was found in a town that dates back to the 1850's but it is in Oregon. Maybe it migrated up here and ended up beside a tree that was about 4 feet in diameter. Who knows...stranger things seem to happen all over. Guess that's why I enjoy this hobbie so much.....ya just never know!! Thanks

Thanks for the info vayank54...... but I still have to wonder how it got all the way to Oregon.

Cool buckle Gold Nuggets! I think kudos are in order for finding an 1898 Span.Am. buckle, and remember, 'beauty is in the eye of the beer holder,' so value is not always placed on a monetary system. Breezie
