This item was found on our new battlefield farm that we have been hunting again.

Can anyone help out with this? This is a find that we have been trying to dig out on 2 seperate occasions. It is in the woods behind the line of where the Confederates had a row of 12 canons on the battlefield/farm that we have begun to hunt. It is the same location that we have found a lot of artillery scrhapnel and a whole 3 in Dyer shell.

One side you can defiantly make out that is is a large section of chain and it runs under the large root. The left side is hard to make out if it is more chain or something else. Was chain link this large used for anything during the Civil War? Judging from the size and age of the tree, it has to be old enough. This thing runs under the root.

Anybody have any ideas? Still trying to get it out

Thanks

Wow. I've heard of digging around roots before but that is a totally different concept. How long did it take you to locate that item? Kudos to your perseverance. I might have given up on that one myself.

Dont know much about cannons but didnt they secure them when they fired them? I mean you would have a tremendous recoil and I think they were anchored to get them back into position. Good luck on your research and can hardly wait to find out what it is.

Get a bulldozer and push that tree over! Only one way to find out where that chain goes....dig some more. Interesting find though.

keep at it, you have to show us what it is now after this tease--lol
hope its a nice c/w relic..that tree will give it up....good luck

Might bring a "come a long" out there next time. I have worked on it twice. Ronin actually got the first hit on it. We were looking for artillery and this thing definatly gace a big hit similar to a cannonball. Not sure what is at the end, but I will find out soon.

Stay tuned for pics, even if it turns out to be nothing.

It may be a rare tree anchor. I've heard of them, but have never seen one before. Thanks for the photos. ;D
Just kidding of course. I can't wait to see what that turns out to be. Keep us posted.

If you don't think it would harm the tree cut the root out with a saw. That is what BB and I did when we found something IN a root recently.

could be whats holding china on to the earth i'd still take a chain saw and liberate it good luck and hh

Hope you get it out. Remember to fill in your plug when you're done. ;D

Ihave an idea. If it were me id crank up the chainsaw....But thats just me!

Goodluck
