Hello all,
Thank you for viewing this thread. This relect was found in the 1960's by my father, brother and me at a union fort which now has a monster house built on top of it. A sad day for preservation. This was the only of five ax heads that had a makers mark. All others were severely rusted.
The mark says "SIMMONS & Co OHOES - N.Y. CAST STEEL WARRENTED"
Dimensions are: Length 7 3/4 inches, Head width 3 1/4 inches, blade width 4 3/4 inches, head thickness 1 1/8 inches.
I was not able to find anything about the manufacturer online, but possibly someone may already know about the company and will share the information. IMAG0914.jpg

yeah Ive got the same problem houses popping up everywhere and covering the sites.

AL11.

Ax heads of that shape & type are always a Pain for me to put a Time Period on.

From my experience many CW era AX 's Were marked & Many from the NE US.

I've seen many Ax Heads on many diff, sites (one popular site w/ many pictured, styles mostly (not Markings) if I recall right.) Ill look into the name when I can .

I usually keep most ax heads I find ; if whole or only cracked on one side. FWIW
