Hello everyone. My first post here.

I hope someone has some idea what these odd objects are. All the same size (3/4" diameter & 1/2" thick) found in the same location. I believe they are made of lead and no older than 1860 (based on history of the area).

Thanks for any help in identifying these objects!

My advice would be...First find out if they are lead... They could be silver!

I too have found these objects. Have you been able to figure out what they are? I know for a fact they are lead, the EPA tested them. Mine were found while the EPA was cleaning an area of the Delaware River shoreline behind Fort DuPont in Delaware City, Delaware. I have several circular pieces with and without a star-like shape around them. IMG_3898.JPG

Old area, full of fun history to uncover!

I am sure you all know this already, nevertheless part of my responsibility/duty is to make people aware that metal detecting and digging on State Park property is illegal. If you find an object out in the open on State Park property leave it be and contact the park's office/ranger telling them where the object is located.

With that said, happy hunting!

Though I could imagine, if someone found a gold coin I doubt they would leave it "undisturbed" and let the park ranger know. What would end up happening is that you will never see your gold coin again if the park ranger got involved with the recovery. Chances are you would not even be involved with the recovery.

First of all welcome. Why is it "part of your responsibility" ? Are you the park police and if so what's your reason for being here ? Just curious...

Well I never hunted on state park property when I was there, only private land. Thanks for your concern and setting us straight as to the Law! HH

I am not park police, but I do work for parks. I am here in hopes to find out the story of this object and add it to our collection for the public to view and learn about this area's cultural history.

Is the "star-like shape" around them broken like that or made like that? Do you have any that go all the way around the disk? I'd like to see a picture if so,

I think what you two could have found are vintage/late Victorian flower holders, which are also know as 'frogs.' Frogs were 'lead based.'

So you trolled all relevant threads to find this one guy with this one find to say you wanted it. I'd say sure you can have it: for a price that is. If I spend my money in fuel and in batteries and any other spendable asset you bet someone is paying for something I found regardless of where it goes or my name goes on it and not say at a museum found by parks department employee Lizz

CW22,

Go back and re-read the thread. Lizz isn't asking for the relic. Lizz wants to know what it is because she (assuming she) also found one and wants to add it to the museum with a proper description.

There are two things I think after looking at your pic: #1 The EPA may have said after testing, your item is lead, but there is some iron in there too because I see rust in the crevasses. Lead doesn't rust. #2 "If" it is lead, it is not very old because when it ages in the ground, lead forms a nice, white patina.

Since I just started MD a few weeks ago, I keep in mind your warning about State Parks. :laughing7: Welcome to the forum, Breezie

Almost looks like a break point. Like a shear pin function. Is the star iron?

Have not found one that has the star all the way around. They do appear to be broken. Some erosion has taken place smoothing the edges of the break.
