Howdy! Yesterday on a woods hunt my girlfriend and I found this round horse object. The black top part feels like plastic. Inside the bottom it reads "PATENT MCH30 1880." We were guessing it to be some kind of seal for marking into wax. :dontknow: The underside also has two small holes on the rim across from each other. I haven't been able to find a match for a wax seal when googling.

TIA for any help and HH,
Michiganne

Re: Circular horse thing

I don't think it a wax seal, the relief should be out to prevent the wax from sticking.
looks more like the cap from a riding crop

Re: Circular horse thing

It looks like a Victorian bridle rosette to me. During that time there were some really fancy bridle rosettes, and some transformed into brooches. The top may be bakelite. Breezie

Wow, I think you got it there mcmich! Thank you. :hello2: So how old roughly would you guess? I would never have guessed it was a cufflink as I know very few people who wear them.

From mcmich's link:
Here’s my favorite cufflinks because of the old school clasp mechanism. On the back they say “Patent MCH30 1880″ which hasn’t turned up much information. The clasp works by pushing on the pins on either side which opens the hole for the clasp.
