Capt. Ed and I got out for a morning dive today. This circa 1787 copper Deer Head Shield token was found while metal detecting in shallow water off Eastern Long Island on February 22, 2009. What makes the token interesting is that after 30 years of diving this token has the same emblem and text "E Pluribus Unum" as another artifact recovered a just few months earlier. What are the odds?

Congrats on a New Jersey Copper, it is a 1787 variety Maris 6-D. A very common variety for NJ coppers and on an large planchet. Even though you have not shown a photo of the Obverse where the Horse head and Plow are and date, it is fairly obvious by the shape of the wide shield and where the upper right point of the shield lines up with the letter S that is is a Maris 6-D variety.

If you have a photo of the other one found I would appreciate you posting that one also.

You can change the name of your post by using the Modify option of your post and correct it to it being a 1787 New Jersey Copper.

Don thanks for the info. Photo of token on your link is the identical token!. Unfortunetely, the other side is very worn with no detail remaining. This is the only token I found the other artifact is a pc of brass found on a local wreck. I will send an image once I getit cleaned up.
