Our plan A to drive to a no intel blind hunt field, changed when we spotted that the Roman Metal Working Site had been re-drilled with Spring Wheat. The Winter Beans must have failed. What's bad for the farmer is good for us. Although after 3 hours & only a few finds including 9 scrappies we changed tack.
We try the field opposite for 1.5 hours, that was pretty much a bust & with the strong wind I was ready to move off. Glad we did, as we spotted a farmer friend we haven't seen in 2 years, in fact he had just been asking Land-Mag what had happened to us. We just haven't done his land in a while, that was all. When we stopped him to say 'hello', he said it would be OK to do the drilled field next to the Church. So we decided to do another hour. Glad I did as I got a 14th C Mount laying on the top!

5.5 hours;

10 Scrappies
Bit of a Roman Bracelet
Roman Pin
Romano-Celtic 1st C AD Ring Bezel
Strangely shaped Medieval Strap-end (a first!)
A 14th C Gilt Rampant Lion Horse Harness Mount (not pendant) Only about 6 'similar' ones recorded on the PAS, this one being the best by far. Very well modeled piece from a high status individual who was at least an Earl or Duke, & probably given that emblem by the King as a battle honour, as the Lion shows courage in battle!:headbang:

Fantastic Roman finds Crusader.......I would love to hunt in England one day! Still on my bucket list.

Your finds never cease to amaze !! :occasion14:

Nice finds! To an untrained eye like mine I would think that Lion mount was a piece off an automobile! Incredible!

I looked down & saw it, thinking it was a cap badge!

You never fail to bring it......and oh what a good one you did this time.banner vote going in based on rarity and sheer awesomeness:thumbsup:

The lion horse harness mount is a fascinating find. Thanks for sharing Crusader!

P.S. Do you ever take a day off? I'm constantly astounded by your work ethic ( and your never ending amazing recoveries). Congrats!

Crusader I can only imagine that you must have a museum worth of stuff from all your finds? I have a really small collection that is slowly growing. Do you display your stuff or catalogue it in any way?

I do about 125 days of detecting a year, but I don't put that in the same bracket as a good 'work' ethic. You never do a days work if you enjoy it, so detecting isn't work.:icon_thumright:

I have a mobile collection of better stuff in a oak display case, that we use when doing the odd Historical talk. (we do this free of charge to those that request)
I used to have a couple of display cases in the local Museum, but these have now been rotated out.
I catalogue it on here, as I post every hunt. However, all items we term to be 'recordables' are on Cru'dads database. This includes data like GPSing, & its probably the largest UK Private resourse. We have over 13,000 Roman Bronze Coins alone.

We don’t see a lot of stuff from outside of the US posted on this forum. But we do see your stuff often and it is unbelievable how much old old history that you dig up. For me it’s tough to relate to some of the stuff, but I appreciate it’s historical value. However this Lion is amazing and aesthetically awesome too! I don’t need to be a specialist to recognize that it’s something special. Great finds

Great job Cru Thanks for always sharing em with us
